The Nittany Lion Inn receives generally positive reviews, highlighting its beautiful design, convenient location on campus, and friendly staff. However, recurring issues with temperature control, inconsistent service, and occasional room deficiencies like uncomfortable pillows and cramped bathrooms have been raised. Recent renovations have improved the property’s aesthetics and amenities.
Overall a good experience in regards to room decoration, bedding and bathroom comfort and location. Our AC however, would not go below 70 degrees despite all of our attempts. This was especially bad because it was 90 degrees outside. We tried to have it fixed multiple times, albeit the staff was very nice about helping, they never fixed the issue and the room remained uncomfortably hot. It seems that previous guests have had the same issues based on their reviews. I don't know if the hotel is trying to save money by setting it at a fixed temperature or not but this has to be either fixed or there has to be transparency with guests in regards to the fixed temperature because a cool room is essential for a good sleep which is essential for a good vacation.
One star removed for the nickel and diming on parking (note: this isn’t manhattan).. rooms are very nice but i was woken up 2x in the night by very noisy in room ac. All staff were pleasant but not overly attentive. 3.5 stars.
My wife and I stayed four nights at The Nittany Lion Inn while visiting our daughter at Penn State, and overall we enjoyed our stay. The location is unbeatable because it feels like part of the campus, which made it easy to spend time with our daughter and explore the area. Our room was spacious and comfortable, but a few issues took away from the premium feel. There was no coffee in the room when we arrived, and none was available until the second day. The only option was the hotel coffee shop, which charged Starbucks prices without Starbucks quality. The in?room A/C and heater were also very loud, so we had to turn it off at night to sleep. The bathroom was clean but felt cramped for a higher?end hotel. The front desk staff were helpful and pleasant whenever we interacted with them. Despite the issues, we enjoyed our stay and appreciated the convenience and charm of being right on campus.
I stayed at the Nittany Lion Inn this past weekend, and while there’s a lot to admire, the experience left me disappointed enough not to return. The good: The attention to detail in the design is impeccable. Every element feels thoughtfully considered, resulting in a space that’s warm, elegant, and timeless—yet somehow still modern and fresh. The cohesive use of blues throughout the inn is particularly beautiful and creates a truly inviting atmosphere. The bad: For a place that clearly prides itself on craftsmanship and hospitality, they fail at the very first point of contact: the valet. When I arrived, the valet offered to help with my luggage but failed to open the door at my arrival letting me go in and out multiple times. When I checked out, three valets stood by as I clearly struggled with multiple bags and had to make two trips to my car—parked right outside. Not one offered to help, or have the common courtesy to take the bags themselves. I had a tip ready, but no one stepped up, and left me disappointed. I don't know if it had to do with my age or look, or if they haven’t been trained in basic valet etiquette. Either way, it’s unacceptable for a place that charges premium rates. ($40 to valet for the night) Then there are the pillows—some of the worst I’ve ever slept on. They also charged me for a bottle of water, which is Hospitality 101: offer a guest water on arrival, free of charge. This inn charges like a 5-star hotel but delivers the 3-star service it’s rated for. The valet experience alone gave me every reason never to stay here again.
The Nittany Lion Inn is a wonderful place to stay if you’re visiting Pennsylvania State University. My family stayed there while bringing our son to see the campus, and the experience really added to the trip. The inn itself is a beautiful historic building that has clearly been very well maintained. It has that classic college-town charm while still feeling clean, updated, and comfortable. Our room was spacious and very comfortable, which made it easy to relax after a long day exploring campus. The restaurants and bars inside the inn were fantastic, and it was nice not having to leave the property to enjoy good food and drinks. There’s also plenty of seating and gathering space downstairs, which makes it a great place to meet up with family, talk, or just sit and take in the atmosphere. The location is excellent—right in the heart of everything near campus—which makes getting around incredibly convenient. Overall, it’s a beautiful property and a great place to stay when visiting Penn State.
Wonderful place to stay. Super clean. Very comfortable beds. Great service. On the morning of my check in I arrived in town at 5am. They let me check into my room. I was able to rest for a few hours prior to my business in town. They say check in is 4pm but they were so accommodating. Highly recommend this wonderful hotel. 5 stars. I will definitely stay again when in town.
Incredible hotel with so much charm mixed with modern day features. Decor is up lifting. Staff incredibly pleasant & happy to see us. Food in the restaurants & the cafe are fabulous. Many great nooks to boot up the laptop & work. Family friendly. Lovely grounds to walk & ideal location within minutes of restaurants, cafes & shops. You really don't have to leave the hotel if you don't want to - everything you need is right there! Super clean & also comfy beds!
I recently stayed at the Nittany Lion Inn for 4 nights and 5 days, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience. The rooms were great — clean, spacious, and extremely comfortable. The hallways were absolutely amazing, lined with bookcases and cozy seating areas, all surrounded by fascinating history that truly made the Inn feel special and unique. The mocktails at Triplets were delicious, and the coffee at the café was just as impressive — such a treat during our stay. We were in town because my daughter danced at THON, so we were coming and going at all hours. It was incredibly comforting to be somewhere that felt so safe, welcoming, and conveniently close to everything we needed. Every single staff member was absolutely incredible. I never once arrived or left without someone opening a door for me — that level of attentiveness and hospitality does not go unnoticed. Everyone was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful throughout our entire stay. I do need to especially mention Claire. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, she made our stay so comforting. When my flight was canceled, Claire went above and beyond to ensure my son and I were taken care of. She helped us navigate our travel changes and made a stressful situation so much easier. Her kindness and professionalism truly stood out. Thank you for making what was already a meaningful trip even more memorable. We will absolutely be back!
First time staying at the Nittany Lion Inn since the renovations and the interior has improved so much! The staff and service is great. Our toilet bowl cover was weirdly completely unattached from the toilet when we arrived and they fixed it very quickly for us. My biggest complaint is the thermostat. Whenever it turns on to maintain temperature, the screen lights up and illuminates the entire room. It’s extremely bright and kept me up both nights. The smoke detector green light that blinks periodically is also so bright. I had a very hard time sleeping.
Its a beautiful hotel within the college campus. Rooms are big and has coffee machine. Bathrooms are of good size too. Sheets are clean, bed is comfortable and front desk customer service is amazing. Their gym is one of the best with the most modern machines. They have breakfast cafe/ restaurant that opens at 6am serving coffee and breakfast. They have other restaurant/bar/ cafe as well. We had a very comfortable stay. Thank you so much.
