The Residence Inn by Marriott - State College offers comfortable, spacious rooms with complimentary breakfast and a convenient location near Penn State University. While many guests praise the staff, location, and excellent breakfast, some have reported maintenance issues and inconsistent service.
My favorite hotel in state college. Cozy but sizable rooms with a great layout esp if your sticking around for awhile and need to eat, work and sleep in one place. Nice staff. Unique place.
I found the hotel to be clean and my room was very comfortable. I stayed in the dead of winter and the room stayed nice and toasty. The shower water is nice and hot. The free breakfast every day has waffles, bagels, yogurt, cereal, and oatmeal. The egg section changes every day which is nice. I recommend the frittata.
I’m a Marriott Elite member of 4 years with roughly 30–40 total night stays, and this was overall a good experience with a few areas for improvement. Check-in was smooth, and I appreciated the complimentary water bottle for being an Elite member (only the second time I’ve received a check-in gift, so it was a nice touch). The room itself was comfortable, though the bathroom tub showed noticeable peeling, as if it had been painted over. A proper refitting or renovation of the tub would go a long way here. There was a noticeable weed smell when first entering the room. I was exhausted after a long day and didn’t request a room change, and the smell did seem to dissipate over time (or I got used to it), but it’s worth mentioning. One minor inconvenience: one nightstand’s USB ports didn’t work, though the other side functioned fine. On the positive side, breakfast exceeded expectations. The options went well beyond a standard continental setup, with items like biscuits and gravy, quiche, and even take-home sandwiches — a definite highlight of the stay. Overall, this hotel offers good value, a strong breakfast, and a comfortable experience, with a few maintenance and consistency issues keeping it from a full 5 stars.
Great hotel! The location was very convenient, only a 5 minute drive to PSU. The room was spacious and clean, and the staff was amazing. The breakfast was also good! Definitely recommend.
Close to campus with an easy 6 minute drive. Breakfast was great. Staff was friendly. Room was clean and well stocked.
Great staff and excellent location, just minutes from Penn State which was perfect for my event. The room was spacious and very clean. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel.
No cleaning or fresh towels for three days. Good think the other bath had extra. Building smells bad and is run down. Rates are very high for such a hotel.
Have been a Bonvoy member for 6 years! I booked a studio queen for the 2 of us. My daughters we going to sleep on the pull out sofa bed . I booked for 4 people so the hotel knew how many people were going to be in the room . The pull out sofa came with 1 pillow so I went to the front desk to ask for more pillows and blankets and was told sorry we are to busy and have no blankets or pillows available. First time I’ve ever heard that from a Marriott property . So disappointed in the front desk staff
A very disappointing experience. The room, while clean and spacious, smelled like feet. This was almost certainly due to an issue with air condition condensate as that was the origin of the smell. Obviously, you could be in the cleanest room in the world, but if it stinks, you’re not going to be happy. I explained this issue to Gabby at the front desk. Rather than an apology, your response was “Are you sure it wasn’t your feet?” This unto itself disqualifies this hotel from the hospitality business. The smell is something that can happen with any air conditioned space and I wouldn’t downgrade them in the way I did except for the response of the person at the front desk, which was beyond disappointing. I would be remiss to not mention the outstanding breakfast with an outstanding hostess, who came close to making up for Gabby. The food was great, which is unusual for a free breakfast in a hotel and served in a truly immaculate setting. That woman deserves a raise. Overall, quite disappointing. Those of you follow my reviews, know that I love to give great reviews and love to shout people out, but this…
I recently stayed at the Marriott Residence in State College and overall, it was a great experience. The location is excellent, and the spacious rooms with kitchens are a big plus, especially when traveling with others. However, if you’re sensitive to noise, you might want to request a room away from guests with dogs. I had an issue with a dog barking late at night, and although the staff was kind, they were unable to resolve the problem immediately. It’s fantastic that the hotel is pet-friendly, but keep in mind that it might lead to some noise. Despite this, I’d still recommend the hotel for its comfort and amenities.
