The Scholar Hotel State College offers a convenient location near shops and restaurants, praised by some guests for its cleanliness and helpful staff. However, recent reviews highlight significant concerns regarding noise levels, parking difficulties, inconsistent service, and outdated room features. Overall, the experience appears inconsistent depending on the time of year and specific room.

The hotel is clean and convenient to shops and restaurants. The area seemed safe. Main issue was the noise. The hotel is across from two frat houses - lots of screaming college girls until well after midnight. We stayed on a rainy Wednesday night in March. It was so loud. I can’t imagine what it’s like in the warmer weather. I purposely requested a higher floor so it would not be so loud, but the window in the bedroom would not close all the way. Finally fell asleep around 2 AM and then the garbage trucks came to pick up from the alley around 6:40 AM. Despite the staff’s best efforts to provide a wonderful experience, the location is not somewhere that I would ever stay again.

Parking is a disaster. Google Maps sends you to the wrong garage, and if the weather’s bad you end up dragging bags a block and a half. That’s a dealbreaker for business travel. Noise was also rough. I got woken up around 1am by drunk people yelling in the alley. I was on the 5th floor and it still came right through—soundproofing needs work. Room service started strong the first day, then slipped each day after. The restaurant food is basically bar food. It’s “fine if you’re starving late at night,” but it doesn’t feel like Hilton quality. And the bartender at night was straight-up rude and acted like guests were an inconvenience. And then on Friday morning no water from the shower or taps. The called the front desk l,, I let it ring for 5mins, no one picked up, if no one is in the building to pick up the building effectiy is worthless. Terrible experience. I won’t stay here again.

I don't understand the negative reviews for this place. Location alone is incredible. Room was clean and comfortable, lobby is nice and front desk workers were great. What more do you want?

Was spoken to very rudely after check out when I noticed a 16.00 dollar charge get declined because I keep my card locked. I call them to see what happened, they claim I didn’t pay the incidental charge of 15 dollars. Screenshots to prove the first decline, second hold that went through and therefore was cancelled upon checkout, and the sneaky charge they tried to get in. Will be calling Hilton corporate.

Checked in late and the front desk manager with glasses said it would be okay to stay parked out front of the hotel. Went out to my car early next morning and had a parking ticket. I took the ticket to the morning front manager with glasses and he just gave me the biggest attitude I have EVER received from a Hilton employee. He made me feel like an idiot for listening to his fellow employees about it being okay to stay parked out front. I could tell he was happy about making me feel stupid. He also offered no solutions beyond making me feel stupid. I had to call the hotel twenty minutes later to offer a solution. That guy needs an attitude adjustment. And the night manager needs to stop telling people it’s okay to park out front overnight.

I'm a local who was getting married downtown, so we stayed at the Scholar for getting ready and the night of the wedding. We also had our out-of-town guests stay here. It was so great! The local is wonderful--remember, it is downtown so it can be noisy at night but a white noise app can help with that. The rooms are so spacious. I got one of the suites since we would have 4 girls and hair and makeup getting ready, and it was absolutely perfect. It was clean. The suite had a full size fridge and stove. It was a great spot for the wedding weekend!

Everytime I stay here it is a great experience. Rooms are clean and comfortable. It’s in a great location. Staff are helpful. No mini fridge in rooms though.

The staff at this hotel were excellent. Kind and attentive. The location was good and the hotel was clean. However, the stay was overall not enjoyable. The fact that you cannot control the temperature of the room yourself is frustrating and made the room hard to bear. The beds felt very hard, cheap, and uncomfortable. The door to the bathroom could barely be closed it was so heavy and hard to move (not to mention made a lot of noise). The toilet flapper was disconnecting so often we left the toilet cover off for ease of fixing it. I stay in a lot of hotels (and nice ones) and for the price paid, I was not pleased with the experience.

Great location for visiting the area/student. Easily walkable to campus, restaurants and shops. The staff is excellent and helpful. The hotel itself is mediocre. Very old building with old infrastructure. Shower pressure is terrible. You can’t control the temp in the living room of the suite, only the bedroom. (They can do it at the desk for you if you call/text). Bar is comfortable but has “local” only spirits, etc. Food is not great, to say it nicely. I think this branded as a “Tapestry” is quite a stretch.
