The Hyatt Place State College receives mixed reviews, with some guests praising the staff and location, while others report significant issues with room cleanliness, parking, and reservation errors. Recent reviews highlight concerns about towed vehicles, outdated facilities, and staff responsiveness.
Steve at the valet parking is GREAT! He is so great to everyone who comes by and definitely deserves a raise! He made this experience 10x better. Very sociable guy and makes you feel very welcomed.
Would have been a great stay if not for the extremely loud Heat/AC system that woke me up at 1:30am. Used my phone to measure the sound level from my bed: 75 dB!!
Avoid the Hyatt at State College at all costs. Our recently graduated daughter stayed at the hotel and purchased 24-hour reserved parking as a guest of the hotel. She was told by the front desk that she had the ability to park in their designated parking lot. She paid a $16 fee and was told upon check in the fee allowed guests of the hotel a spot that would be reserved for 24-hours. She followed the instructions to the garage and parked in a spot that was marked Reserved for 24-hour parking at approximately 7pm on the day of check in. Upon returning to the garage at approximately 11am the following day (16 hours later), her car was not in the spot - she confirmed it was towed by Walker’s Towing in State College. She followed instructions, did not violate the law by parking illegally, was a guest at the Hyatt who paid for parking, she was parked in their designated garage, all confirmed by Jake the Operations Manager, yet her car was towed. The hotel did absolutely nothing to assist their guest that they confirmed had paid for 24-hours of reserved parking in the garage. There was no support from hotel management and the fee we were charged for the tow was $335.00. A nearly $500 charge for a one night stay (150 for the room and 335 for parking). For a recent grad, that is an exorbitant amount of money. The State College Police - who were absolutely amazing to deal with - confirmed that this happens frequently and Jake at the hotel also confirmed it was not the first time a guest’s car was towed. Not having clear signage that says “Not Reserved for Hyatt Guests” leads one to believe that Hyatt does not care if their guests cars are towed. Hyatt allows the vague and unclear signage and local tow companies take advantage of it as well - visitors are being scammed by both Hyatt and the towing industry in SC, PA. This is a clear problem with an easy solution (clear signage and clear instructions to guests, i.e., DO NOT PARK IN X SPOTS). We never expected Hyatt brands to scam, swindle, disregard, or allow their guests (and struggling college students/recent grads) to be defrauded by the big business tow companies in State College with questionable ethics, but they allow it to happen by not ensuring signage and instructions for their guests are clear. It is obvious by their inaction and complete disregard for their guests that Hyatt Hotels supports unethical practices. They create conditions that result in their hardworking guests being taken advantage of. We will never stay at another Hyatt property again, nor will family or friends. We have stayed in State College for years and never experienced something so disgraceful -especially surprising from Hyatt Hotels, which what we thought was a reputable brand. There are so many wonderful hotels in State College — avoid this one!
No complaints. Everything was great. Location is amazing. Wish there was an indoor pool but not a deal breaker:) staff was accommodating to my service animal. Stayed there Spring 2024
They called yesterday to cancel my room tomorrow I had booked months in advance for graduation weekend so I could attend my commencement ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Sunday - apparently it’s me and 30 other people in this situation. This is completely unacceptable. I trusted Hyatt for reliability and professionalism, but this experience shows the opposite. Apparently there’s some renovations going on, but when you call corporate, there is no record of any kind of construction happening. What it looks to me now is that the hotel has overbooked themselves. So in the name of corporate greed, my plans have had to reroute themselves on what’s supposed to be a celebratory weekend. Beware traveler, your reservation confirmation means nothing at this hotel. I’ll be rethinking any future stays with Hyatt and will share this experience so others are aware of how poorly reservations can be handled here.
I am currently a student at Penn State and studying during finals week. The staff is awesome and always so kind. I saw red head kid get kicked out because he was causing a huge problem in the lobby. He was being obnoxious and while he was studying and distracting everyone. I saw him quickly write a review and gave this place 1 star. I wanted to clear the air and say that his review is completely false and he is not telling the full story. I love this place and will definitely be back again and again. This is a great place to stay/study because the staff always gives the same respect that you give them and their guests.
My recent stay at the Hyatt Hotel in State College, Pennsylvania was extremely disappointing. First, the television in my room did not function properly. The screen was completely pixelated and impossible to watch. I contacted the reception desk and was told a technician would be sent, yet after waiting more than 15 minutes, no one arrived. Additionally, the cleanliness and maintenance of the room were unacceptable. There were suspicious stains on the glass picture frame in the bathroom, dust hanging from the bathroom wall, and stains on the bathroom ceiling. The wallpaper had white marks, and there was a noticeable humidity odor. It also appeared that white paint had been used to cover moisture damage on the ceiling. Overall, the ceiling appeared unfinished, giving the impression that it was still under construction. This experience is absolutely unacceptable. At a rate of nearly $300 per night, The condition of the room and the lack of basic service fell far below the standards, No guest should ever be subjected to such conditions.
Their website does not tell you this but the check-in lobby is on floor 2 so you have to unload , wheel in to the elevators, and up to check in. No parking on site - garage parking is across the street. Entry from busy West Beaver is a crowded nightmare I wouldn’t mind - this is a city after all -except for the dirty toilet seat we found upon checking in to room 405. Yeah zoom in to see poop and pee. Luckily we bought wipes but as we had already unpacked everything did not want to deal with the baloney of complaint & room change. The rest of the place seems clean and they are scheduled to do room updates next year . Yay.
I checked in to this hotel at 12 PM and received my room key without issue. However, I had to head out quickly and didn’t go up to the room at that time. When I returned close to midnight with my family, I was shocked to find my key didn’t work. After going back to the front desk, I was told they had meant to assign me a different room. I was given a new key and went up again—only to walk into a room already occupied by another couple. We were all confused, exchanged words, and eventually realized we shared the same last name. Apparently, this wasn’t the first mix-up for them either. Back downstairs again, I was given yet another room. Tired and frustrated, my family and I went up once more, hoping to finally settle in—only to find that this room was also already occupied. That was the last straw. I asked them to cancel my reservation and left to find a different hotel at nearly 1 AM, exhausted and upset, with my children in tow. This was an absolutely unacceptable experience. I had already checked in and paid, yet I was treated like a walk-in guest being shuffled from one occupied room to another. I expect far better, especially from a hotel that markets itself as high-end and charges accordingly. I will never return and caution others to think twice before booking.
We loved this. Just needed a quick stay but it exceeded our expectations. Staff was great. Parking was easy and included with our room. Hotel was quiet but close to campus and downtown state college. My teenagers loved the breakfast which was a little better than the usual complementary breakfast. The morning coffee wasn’t that strong but the Target Nextdoor had a Starbucks. This is our current favorite place to stay on campus. We’ll be back for future visits!
